The course explores
- contemporary tendencies of participatory design, as those rise in current socioeconomic conditions
- related collective practices in working groups, particularly in an academic and/ or research context
- original forms of design studies and presentation of the design outcome, as well as of the design process
The aim of the course is to curate a traveling exhibition on the work that has been produced the past few years at the Building Structures Research Unit of the Department of Architecture. The course objective is the design of the concept and the format, as well as the content of the exhibition.
The proposed program is focusing on lightweight timber structures and exploring related construction techniques and fabrication methodologies through a research‐by‐design methodology
Class meetings will alternate between presentations on theoretical issues and hands-on workshops with physical models in order to experiment with the material and tactile, structural and technical parameters of the design proposals.
The course outcome will be a result of team work, while each student will undertake a specific part of the design and construction process, in relation to his/ her experience, interests and skills.
The specific task of the week-long final workshop will be the custom design and full-scale construction of a prototype-module of the exhibition set.
