The aim of this course is to study and design a new school of architecture in the center of the city of Larissa. The purpose of this course is to explore the possibilities of a contemporary educational environment that will host and enable a creative academic life. The architectural presence of a school in the urban context and its reconciliation with the surrounding environment is an additional and essential issue.


In the immediate field located in the historical center of the city of Larissa are: the vivid pedestrian Venizelos street, the excavation of the Roman theater, Early Christian baths from 5th century B.C. Yeni and Bayrakli Mosque, the Bezesteni, the church of St. Achillios, the river, the park, bridges, visible and invisible relations and relics of human activities.

The careful recognition of this environment and its qualities of this area is essential. In situ activity detection and documentation during our visit to the site is extremely important.


The building program sought to meet and include the necessary design studios, laboratories, faculty offices, a small amphitheater, library, washrooms, and outdoor spaces. The proposal will take into consideration the structural organization and articulation, functional and programmatic requirements, the issues of access and movement for people with disabilities.
