The general objective of the course is students understand and get familiar with dig data, digital construction and design process (design-construction continuum) as well as to design and develop prototypes through additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, robotics, UAVs, etc
Course is organized in two major sections. The first focuses on construction analysis, collaborative design, and standardization. The second section focuses on computer aided design and manufacturing, construction technologies, and assembly process. For the academic year 2020-2021, the task is a Staircase design and implementation of a prototype (mocup) in scale of 1/10. The Staircase will connect two levels that have a height difference of three (3) meters and its outer contour will be of maximum dimensions three (3) meters X three (3) meters. The basic condition of the course is the design and implementation of the protoype (mocup) to be done exclusively with the above digital construction methods.
- additive manufacturing (3d printing)
- subtractive manufacturing (laser cutter)
- assembly (robotic arm)
Students are invited, in small groups, to gradually complete a research paper that includes:
- Bibliographic research
- Case studies
- Design of a specific theme (draft drawings, production drawings, presentation drawings)
- Digital Construction, Development, Evaluation and Testing of Prototypes / mocups
Then, students organize a day of oral and public presentation of their work. An issue with texts, drawings, images, tables and codes in the form of a paper publication is delivered. The evaluation based on students general activity, participation in the course and the quality of the work.
