The learning outcomes are
- support the selection of materials for an architectural project from a technical, structural, sensitive and cultural point of view.
- to argue these choices in relation to the physical characteristics of the architectural environments (ambiances)
- to develop a technical sense critical of contemporary architectural production
This course provides an overview of construction physics with an emphasis on materials and their environmental properties. The principles of building physics (light, sound, heat, air) as well as the main families of building materials will be presented. Courses will also focus on the sensitive dimensions of architecture, materials and their potential to create remarkable architectural atmospheres.
For the year 2024-2025, the following themes will be addressed:
- Designing and Building under other latitudes or in the other hemisphere
- Extreme architecture: challenges and solutions in inhospitable environments
- Reconnecting nature, living beings and things with architecture
