A contemporary city augments its renting possibilities through a multiple partial division of its field and the digital options to reach every section for renting. In this new condition, where the history of airB&B has already become very telling, the concept of the room is revisited in a new light. A question about the dependence of the room to its infrastructure becomes again an important field of discussion. The “City of Rooms” refers to this new condition of post-urbanity where the apartment fails to represent the city cell and the room undertakes this role. How can the city be rethought after such an acceptance?
Especially in the context of the shrinking Greek cities, digital platforms of shared economies offer an opportunity for radical reprogramming and connectivity that could sustain their compact character. Our research will focus on 35 unfinished construction sites in the city of Volos. The question asked by the studio is how can we imagine a network of complementary units that support an alternative mode of inhabitation.
