SUBJECT

The context
The international interest in architectural research is directed from the "Metropolis" to the unlimited landscapes of the countryside. Through criticism of metropolitan life, the rhythms of the post-industrial subject and its technological households, we are investigating who might be the expanded and hybrid ways of living in the countryside. Considering that in the modern era contrasts between "city / countryside", "culture / nature", "center / periphery", "inside / outside", held a dominant pole, a driving force that constituted an essential component of the architectural planning. This condition of in-between, life and activity (outward), the de-layering of work, perhaps, of habitation, of temporal proximity, is now being sought. In Greece, this " amphibious" situation between the cities of labor and the countryside of leisure will be intensified and will cause these "secondary phenomena", the transfer of urban habits and structures to the countryside, rural tourism, the touristification of the countryside, resulting in the relative lifting of the city-country bipolar and the creation of a semi-or semi-outdoor life.
The aim of the course is to investigate the construction structure and the residential scenario facing each of the two polarized parts of the couple, urban and natural as a form of existence of the same integral and indivisible totality.

-The methodology

-Row work
A) Bibliographic Research and presentation of a branded study on an extended structure of minimal living in the countryside with characteristics of autonomy, bioclimatic design, minimal energy footprint as well as environmental treatment of construction materials. Along with the bibliographic data, the analysis of the practices and rituals of residence of the structure chosen by the students will also be given importance.

B) Analysis and presentation of the potential resident. Students are invited to approach and describe the daily action of a subject with multiple qualities. In the post-industrial age, the subjects do not have a unique identity. Through the multiple activities of "basic" and "secondary" work, the heterogeneous roles and the effectiveness of each action, students are invited to creatively capture the subject's 24 hours.

C) Locating a semi-subsistence / semi-permanent residence permit in the extended territory of Agios Volos. Students are invited to approach the study area, make a record of living and living practices "out" and identify the background in which they will intervene through the design of a residence-work unit that works as an attachment to an existing situation, with autonomy capability and addressed to a subject with multiple actions.

ASSESSMENT

Through a series of consecutive exercises, the students will be led to scenario building and design,
using design tools, survey and reading diagrams of the research field, architectural drawings as well 3d models
