ΟΑ0701, AUDIOVISUAL ART,
Elective at semester(s) 6, 8, ECTS: 3

SUBJECT

This course presents the basics of physics and perception principles needed in order to understand sound propagation in outdoor spaces. It presents the sound  propagation properties, it gives tools and methodologies to evaluate outdoor noises and it aims at showing which urban forms can be used for noise mitigation and ambiance creation. More specifically, notions like sound pression level, hertz, octave, decibel A, free field propagation, facade insulation of a building will be explained. This course also presents more qualitative concepts like the Sound Identities of an place, as soundscape – Sonic Effect – Sound Object that can be considered as tools which can help architects to design new buildings.

ASSESSMENT

The students evaluation is realised throught a small project that the student will present at the end of the semester. The objective of the project is to design an ephemerical pavillion to show the sound qualities of the city of Volos.
