LEARNING OUTCOMES

The purpose of the course is for the students to understand the content of the representative architectural views on post war architecture and the relationship of this content with the wider theoretical and socioeconomic framework, as well as with its practical application. Furthermore, there is the possibility of doing a theoretic project which includes the critical description and analysis of the synthetic handling of an actual building in the last 30 years. Another part of the course is the development of critical thinking through the analysis and description of architectural plans and theoretic texts in a clear way. Additionally, there is bibliographic research and the documentation of theoretic issues on architecture.

SUBJECT

The course examines post war views on architecture, with special emphasis on architectural creations since 1960. The lectures include theoretic presentations and analyses of the wider trends in contemporary architectural theory, focusing on key creator cases and on specific architectural studies and applications. The critical approach to contemporary theories  on architecture focuses on the following axes: - It attempts an open classification of post war architectural theories, highlighting the peculiarity, the transitional points and the crucial moments transporting characteristics from one theory to the other.
