Mario RINKE
Mario is a Professor at the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp. Trained as a structural engineer and working in architecture for some years, he researches and teaches structures and construction in architecture. Mario holds a Diploma in civil engineering from the Bauhaus University Weimar and a PhD from ETH Zurich and worked as a design engineer for major offices in London and Zurich. He taught at the architecture department at ETH Zurich, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences, and the Tor Vergata University Rome. In design and build workshops, he explored material-based design and craftsmanship. He co-founded the International Association of Structures and Architecture (IASA).
Alessandro TELLINI
Since 2014, Alessandro has been the head of the Rapid Architectural Prototyping Laboratory (Raplab) and the main lecturer for Model and Design at the Department of Architecture ETH Zurich. He runs his Zurich-based design and craft practice, Faber Atelier, with his partner Elisa Alessi. Trained as both a graphic and product designer, he developed a strong interest in pedagogy, fabrication, and construction throughout his career. He applied his practical knowledge in various settings, including architectural modelmaking, product development, the fabrication of large-scale architectural prototypes, and in international workshops and conferences. Teaching, researching, and investigating projects at the intersection of craft knowledge and design thinking are always at the core of his activities.
On Wednesday 30/10/2024 at 17:30, Nikos Raptis, Designer and Founder of VELOS DESIGN in Vienna will give a lecture and workshop titled "Power boat design fundamentals", as part of the course Architectural Design III-V ΙD: Floating architectures

The Department of Architectural Engineering participates in the 9th OPEN NIGHTS OFF ART on the theme of the EARTH, with two actions, an exhibition-installation and a reading performance.
On Tuesday and Wednesday 22-23/10/2024 at 17:00, Konstantinos Skopas, Product Desisgner and Founder KONCAVE will give a lecture and workshop titled "Digital Design Processes in Product Design and Boatbuilding", as part of the courses Computer Aided Design II and Architectural Design III-V ΙD: Floating architectures

During the course "ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO III-Va" 2024-25 a series of discussions on the lived dimension of the Krafsidonas torrent is planned.
It starts on 16/10 at 20:00 with the presentation "Cohabiting with Krafsidonas" by Evaggelia Apostolou, graduate of ARCH.UTH, student MSc "Studies in Mobility" Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology UTH, inhabitant of the torrent's riparian zone.
The Architecture Design Studio VII "What If," led by tutors Efthymia Dimitrakopoulou, Zisis Kotionis, Giorgos Mitroulias, and Sofia Vyzoviti, is featured in the architectural exhibition "Human Settlements / Sustainable Communities" at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's Mediterranean Garden in Athens. Five studio projects were selected through an open call and evaluation process by a committee. Our department is also represented by two diploma theses.
According to the curators, the selection focuses on innovative proposals that reflect creative thinking and address the theme with depth, dynamism, and originality.

Non-formal Spaces of Education
Volos 7-11/10/2024
Within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly co-organizes with the Dept. of Pedagogy, University of Thessaly, in collaboration with the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, University of Padua, the Blended Intensive Program entitled "Non-formal Spaces of Education. Reclaiming the School as a Space of Commons". In the workshop will participate the Università degli Studi di Pavia (Italy), the ICSTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Portugal), Hochschule Anhalt - Anhalt University of Applied Science (Germany), Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (Portugal), Technical University of Iasi (Romania), Universite de Liege, Arab Academy for Science and Technology (Egypt) and the Lebanese American University (Lebanon).
The program is open to approximately 30 students from the foreign universities and 6 students from the Dept. of Architecture UTH. The BIP will take place with physical presence in Volos (7-11 October 2024) and will include a virtual phase during the month of September. See the detailed programme here.

Recognition of course
BIP provides 3 ECTS and is recognized as the elective course "Intensive Design Workshop" (3rd and 4th year elective) or, as an additional activity which is recorded in the Diploma Supplement.
Financial support
There is no financial support for students from the host Institution.
Selection of students
Students of the host University interested in participating in the workshop should send an email by Sunday 9/9/2024 to Mr. Micocci: fmicocci@uth.gr attaching the following:
- A copy of their transcript of academic records
- Expression of interest on an A4 page where they explain their interest in this topic.
Selection criteria:
- The mean academic score
- The statement of interest on the A4 document and affinities to their research interests
The INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP IN THEORY AND SOUND III “Flood, the ec(h)opolitical” takes place in August 26-28, 2024, Pelio, Monastery of Paou, Greece, as a combined theoretical/artistic workshop simultaneously exploring, questioning and unsettling the modern “theory/practice” conceptual divide, while creating a participatory and cross-disciplinary platform for scholarly/artistic exchanges and convergences.
In this year’s workshop the guest speaker is Brandon LaBelle, an artist, writer and theorist working with sound culture, voice, listening and questions of agency. The EscapeLab team of the Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly invites friends, colleagues, collaborators, and students to submit their ideas, proposals, or even completed audiovisual works (analog, digital, textual, installations, VR, AR, XR applications, games, performances, performative events, etc.) via the following form by Tuesday, July 30, 2024. These works will be showcased at an event held in memory of Spiros Papadopoulos titled: “Can you see me now?” The EscapeLab, the think tank he created, is available for discussion, ideas, and access to his archive for the creation or co-creation of works in his honor or inspired by him.
