Scorrendo la storia dell’architettura è facile constatare come l’essere una costruzione nuova la continuazione di una architettura già esistente sia una regola pressoché generale. In questo senso qualsiasi progetto è sempre il prolungamento di un progetto già fatto, così come è l’inizio di un progetto futuro. La Spalato attuale è cresciuta sui ruderi del Palazzo Diocleziano, il Campidoglio di Roma è l’esito di una scia di interventi edilizi che hanno usato il Tabularium come costruzione; la Basilica di Andrea Palladio a Vicenza è l’involucro cinquecentesco di una fabbrica medioevale; ogni città è la stratificazione su se stessa di ulteriori spessori edilizi.

The course deals with architectural “challenge” as a tool for simultaneously analyzing and projecting urban reality to the future. Interventions take place all around the city of Volos and its topographic background. The urban development of the city will be studied through a series of transformations of its structured and geographical totality. Our basic aim is for the students to select a project and work on it up to the scale of architectural detail, as a part of redesigning the plans and the map of this city.
