CV

Dimitris Antonakakis was born in Chania, Crete in 1933. He graduated from the School of Architecture of NTUA in 1958, where he continued teaching until 1992. Since 1958 he has been working together with Susana Antonakaki with whom he co-founded Atelier 66. He has been a prominent member of the Association of Greek Architects and of the teaching staff of the International Design Seminar at the School of Architecture of TU Delft and in 1988 in Split, invited by Herman Herzberger. Since 1995 he is a member of Academie d' Architecture in France and since 1998 an honorary member of the Association of Architects in Crete. He has been teaching as visiting professor in MIT, in NTUA, in the Department of Architecture of the University of Patras. He is the director of the Center of Mediterranean Architecture in Chania, Crete.

A two-day conference is being organized by the University of Thessaly, department of Architecture in collaboration to the Greek branch of
The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage (TICCIH), the Technical Chamber of Greece (department of Magnesia Prefecture), the Magnesia Prefecture, the Municipal Center of History and Documentation of Volos, the Organization of Volos Port and the Magnesia Chamber of Trade and Industry. The main thematic of the conference is: "Industrial Heritage. Documentation to re-use". TICCIH in collaboration with the branches of the Technical Chamber of Greece have organized a series of meetings about the Industrial Heritage of Greece, the purpose of this conference is to complete this cycle of meetings.
On the Opening day, the presentations will be about the Industrial Heritage of Volos city and will be held the at first floor amphitheater of the Technical Chamber of Greece (department of Magnesia Prefecture) building. On the following day the presentations will be about Greek and international paradigms of documentation and re-use of industrial buildings.The presentations will be held at the Production room event area of Tsalapatas Museum. An exhibition of student projects from the Architecture departments of National Technical University of Athens, Aristoteleio University, University of Patras, University of Thessaly and Dimokriteion University of Thrace, about the industrial heritage will take place in parallel to the conference at the exhibition room of Hoffmann furnace at Tsalapatas Museum.
