My Augmented Sibyl - Divination Mania
In-situ experience and digital oracles of virtual representations
The workshop proposes the metamorphosis of the in-situ experiences into oneiric future visions. Through observation and collective gathering, the fragmented micro-scenes will predict the future in multiple means:
- through music, electroacoustic, soundscapes…
- through choreography, audiovisual…
- through manipulated images or collage/montages…
- through augmented digital objects; or even augmented presences…
Upon the corporeal experience, a dynamic interface in between sensing and creating, we aim to explore multiple possibilities in the interaction of the body with the space-time. Taking as primary input “situationist” routes and exploration of urban, rural and archaeological spaces of Amfissa, as inspiration and analysis, the participants will map new diverse routes of narration and will detect space-times of interest. These geo-localized points will operate like doors towards augmented ecstatic sites, to future visions.
The strategies of the development of the project are:
- Experimentation with augmented and digital tools, either as communication strategy either as creative design means.
- Analysis of the space-time of Amfissa, recognizing emblematic sites such as the café where movies of Angelopoulos were filmed. Delineation of the connexion between everyday spaces and sounds and their cultural representations.
- Rise of art narratives upon the idea of movie story telling as a poetic collective construction.
- Awareness of the suitability of prophecies: augmented reality regarded as a mirror of our desires, fears and more
- New innovative languages of art; from sound, audiovisual, images to digital modelling and augmented reality

Virtual tour of a series of thematic routes across the Pelion hiking trail Aidonofolies-Koukourava-Makrinitsa-Stagiates-Aidonofolies by means of texts, images and interactive small-scale constructions.
- 18.00-21.00: Educational activity in the form of a floor game _ in the framework of the panhellenic campaign Green Cultural Routes of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports
- 21.00-23.00: Narrative presentation of the thematic routes _ in the framework of the elective course Narrative Trails of the Department of Architecture of the University of Thessaly
By means of narrative mapping, the proposals intend to highlight the elements of the natural and man-made environment by unfolding the cultural identity of the Pelion area (folk tradition, culture, mythology, oral history, …).
The event is taking place in the context of the pilot project Narrative Trails: Designing [for] the Pelion routes that is held by the Building Structures Research Unit | ma[K]e of the Department of Architecture in the framework of a multi-disciplinary collaboration within the University of Thessaly.

Closing the summer semester Miranda Terzopoulou will give a lecture on popular fire walking rituals. The lecture is organized by the courses The Great Number and Nostalgia, Space and Culture (with Contemporary Cultural History of the Dept. of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology).

Biography
Miranda Terzopoulou is an ethnologist. She has worked as a researcher at the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre at the Academy of Athens. Her research focuses on popular rituals related to music and song making both studied as media of collective expression and communicative codification in the social context of several ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities. She has been working on ritualistic practices related to cycle of life, the cycle of the year such as the Christmas Twelvetide, the disguises related to the winter solstice, the carnival festivities, the Easter cycle, the fire walking rituals also known as ‘Anastenaria´ in Greece, the summer solstice rituals related to the worship of fire, wedding and funeral customs, rites of passage etc.
Dimitris Theodoropoulos' lecture, titled "Tragata: Are warm summer days of romantic origin?" will take place in room E of the Architecture Department on Thursday May 24th, at 12:00.
The event is part of the "Introduction to Architecture II" course lecture series.
