ELECTIVE DESIGN STUDIO IC
ΑΣ0315, ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN,
Required Elective, Semester 5, ECTS: 4

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Practice state of the art, experimental form generation processes employing both analogue and digital media. The emphasis is placed in the design of small-scale prototypes exploring the architectural potential of conventional and new construction materials.

SUBJECT

Design of an architectural shell that complies with two programmatic conditions: porosity and pliability. Porosity refers to shell permeability, which results from the inclusion of vacuums within its volume. Pliability refers to its flexibility, its formal diversity, its capacity to enfold. The human skin is biological example of a shell of this substance. Inclusion of material properties in the selection of the geometric order of form as well as invention of a structural pattern linked to a construction technique are encouraged within the studio. The architectural ontology of the assignment pertains to ‘single surface’ analogue and digital morphogenesis.
