The Aegean archipelago as a system of multiple human activities - cultural, commercial, industrial and touristic- presents today the image of an exhausted and fatigued territory. The necessity to create protected areas for the preservation of indigenous flora and fauna should not be considered as an obstacle to the development of the region. The study investigates parameters leading to a sustainable master plan for the Aegean Sea, focusing on current legislation and technological development with ecological sensitivity. The ‘Vital Habitat’ reflects the necessity for symbiosis between human activity and environmental resources at the Aegean sea.
