This study research the history of the greek city from the foundation of the modern Greek State in 1828 till the year 1882, when Charilaos Trikoupis becomes elected and a new period in city development commences in the country.
The study approaches the city phenomenon in Greece in conjunction with the development of the greek state mechanism. It supports that the characteristics of the greek cities, many of which are apparent till this day, are the result of the transposition from othomanic feudalism to a form of capitalism with othomanic legacies.
In order to support the original thesis, the following have been studied:
- The forms of property that have been developed by the collapse of the othomanic empire
- The relationships of power that have been developed, but also remained, by the aforementioned progress
- The very way by which the state mechanism is constructed
The study researches the way that the above driving forces influenced the development of the greek city centres.
