This research is trying to investigate the relations between the city and the natural entity and is based on the example of Chalandri’s stream. For the comprehension of this odd relation, I tried to move myself into multiple levels and I tried to locate which are the urban elements that interact with the natural landscape.
In the beginning of our research we intended an historical approach of the stream and we tried to locate which was its status at the Ancient, Roman, Byzantine and pre-war eras. The results of my historical approach prompted me to detect each one of the layers concerning the city; specified at the area by the stream. Afterwards via the composition of various maps, I worked on a methodological approach of Chalandri’s stream and showed the selected area of our research during the period 1945 - 2009. Then, via my bibliographic approach, it was revealed to me the symbolic character of the stream and the hidden spirituality and mysticism of stream’s nature, even if it is now located through an urban landscape. Completing, I advanced in the experiential approach of the stream, via a simple walk between its banks and I located many of the previous mentioned elements in my different ways of approach. Most of them became perceptible as traces through the landscape of the glen.
Through my historical, rational, symbolic and experiential approach, I composed the total “picture” of Chalandri’s stream. However these different ways of approach does not have explicit and distinguishable limits as exactly happens through its sovereign component which is the water and water’s fluidity. Thus, I analyzed this complicated system, in levels that I conceive as “veils” that are subject of the one to the other and exchanging “life” from each other. In this way, is revealed to us the life of the natural landscape of the stream that continues to “be besieged” from the human interventionism, which is expressed via the city.
