Given the current architectural reality, we could content that the ‘great’ pieces of architecture are not sized in square meters. The design of such ‘minimum dwellings’ is a challenge that occupied the architects since the very beginning of the movement of the Modern Architecture. Aim of the study is to bring forward a new typology of dwelling, under 25m²/person. The research is concerned with eponymous architectural solutions, which concern, apart from the ordinary external envelopes, modified containers, trailers, prefabs, floats, automobiles and art installations, as they are presented in the modest bibliography and editorials, or have been manufactured and disposed in the market.
The study focuses on the following questions:
- What is defined as minimum size dwelling?
- Which are the persons that occupy those dwellings? Which are the reasons that lead to
the creation of this type of residences?
- How do the architects occupied with the subject organize their master plans?
- How do the possibilities of the prefabrication and the restrictions of the transportation
integrate producing stimulating living environments?
