The variety of the landscape and the natural environment, at the Aegean islands were always in correspondence with the complexity of the culture. The Aegean Sea has always been a passage of commodities and ideas, where social, economic and intellectual factors have influenced the culture and the architecture.
The Cyclades and the Dodecanese islands seem to present common architectural characteristics, contrary to North Aegean islands, Crete and Sporades.
However, the study of the residence at each island shows differences to the assimilation of the academic formal and decorative elements, which depend on historical factors and the local tradition. The purpose is to define these differences and the reasons of their existence with the study of the architecture, at the islands of Dodecanese and Cyclades, where the local architectural peculiarities are intense, because of the mixture of academic and traditional forms.
