Nowadays, from the few evidence found, a possible suspicion has been created of how the sanctuaries and the rituals dedicated to goddess Demetra seemed like. The fact that there are common characteristics and similar elements between them in different places, was the motivation for a research concerning the processions, the rituals and the sanctuaries related to their order in space and their social substance.
Therefore, goddess Demetra was preferred, while the place where the whole observation and recording take place, is the city of Athens and it’s region.
The research was concentrated on all the ceremonial activities dedicated to Demetra: the route which the rituals followed, as far as their initial and their vanishing point was concerned, inside or out of the city.
Furthermore, all the principals and the ideals that this particular goddess represented were examined, in combination with how these aspects were imprinted through art: pottery, painting, sculpture and architecture.
