This research explores the phenomenon of gentrification in Athens for the period of the 21st century that we are experiencing, as well as the events of the past that led to it. This process significantly impacts the architecture and social structure of various neighborhoods in the city. As a resident of Petralona, I observed the gradual transformation of my neighborhood, and through the study of related articles and research, I discovered that this phenomenon has expanded across many areas of Athens. Older neighborhoods such as Petralona, Gazi, Metaxourgio, and Kypseli have undergone substantial changes in recent years, as gentrification trends reshape the urban landscape and social fabric. Focusing on analyzing the historical course of those areas in terms of gentrification, the research examines the changes brought about by new influences and the activities that reveal the development of gentrification, as well as the footprint it leaves in these areas. The goal is to better understand the phenomenon and identify the patterns it follows, comparatively across each area. In conclusion, a mapping of the whole phenomenon, as well as a comparison of the activities that seem to trigger the phenomenon in each region analyzed, answers the questions raised during the research.
