This synthesis concerns the regeneration of the Evosmos Intersection of Thessaloniki and its redesign with the aim of increasing traffic from the surrounding area, increasing urban greenery and creating a pole of attraction for children - students of the neighboring primary schools in their first contact with urban crops.
The reason why this landmark was chosen for regeneration is that I am also a resident of Evosmos, Thessaloniki and I know firsthand the shortcomings of urban planning regarding shared public spaces, but also certainly my 3-year involvement at a research level and experiential (visits, interviews, on-site autopsies and photographic coverage, etc.) for the completion of my research work entitled "Urban Cultivations in Thessaloniki - Per.ka/Kipos 3" which was presented at the University of Thessaly, at the Department of Architecture of the Polytechnic School in July 2024.
The purpose of the design is to raise awareness and knowledge of city residents towards urban cultivations, the recreational activities that arise with the contact with nature that they introduce, but also the social and environmental lessons that can appear to users at first sight. priority to children who at this age are shaping their urban identity. The design includes walking routes and stops between gently structured urban crops at the Evosmos Junction, gardens specially designed for children and for school visits, stops with benches, a refreshment bar with indoor and outdoor seating, shelters. and redesign of the steps on the south side for small outdoor events, as well as redesign of the existing bus stops for the uniformity of the structures and types of this multi-building project. The existing trees were preserved and new ones were planted, with the aim of highlighting the urban greenery in combination with the urban crops at this spatial point.
The implementation of this project, which still remains at the level of a diploma thesis, is to increase the quality of life of residents with the multiple incentives that the existence of urban crops provides within the urban fabric.
