The diploma thesis titled “Curra/ent: Reclaiming Aigio’s Waterfront by tracing its industrial past”, was carried out by students Georgia Dimitriadou and Margarita-Athanasia Sotiropoulou, under the supervision of Professor Fabiano Micocci. This thesis addresses the urban regeneration of the coastal front of the city of Aigio. Based on the remaining industrial buildings of the currant warehouses and the traces of the destroyed ones along the coast, the waterfront’s function is re-defined. A waterfront striving to remember its identity and the pivotal place it held in people’s lives, as it was previously one of the city’s most dynamic spots. The intention is to create new vibrant public spaces, highlighting the activities of the city and introducing new ones that directly relate to the neighboring area. In this manner, activities that are located in other parts of the city are brought to the coastal area, contributing to its revitalization and turning it into the center of the city’s social life.
