This paper examines the role of architectural design in the total carbon emissions of buildings. It is important to delve into embodied and operational carbon as well as to study the entire life cycle of a structure so that we can intervene at each stage separately, limiting the carbon footprint. Low Carbon Architectural Design is a holistic approach to building and includes more environmentally friendly practices. The choice of location and materials as well as bioclimatic design have a positive effect on the carbon footprint of the construction. It is important to study these practices based on the legal framework of our country and Europe, as well as to focus on examples of applications in Greece and other European countries.
