Our bodies, the bodies that express our needs and desires, which constitute the most direct image of our selves, that interact and coexist within the framework of a society, are simultaneously the bodies upon which power is exerted, laws and decrees are applied, bodies that are violated, bodies that experience pain. Through this work, a preliminary exploration is conducted into the conditions that cause pain in our bodies, in the bodies of a community, as well as a personal journey - with bodily memories, stories of close family and friends, and experiences that have received greater recognition - in order to understand the experiences of an individual.
With a myth, a poem, and an illness as starting points, but with the actual origin hidden in the subconscious, this research presents examples of four bodies experiencing four distinct pains. At the same time, an attempt is made to underline two conditions that accompany physical pain: its intense social aspect and its enormous inability to have a voice, a fundamental part of its existence.
The study of these pains, as well as others that were not included, aims not only to expose the possible reasons that caused them but also to highlight the urgent need for these bodies that have experienced pain, whether they have found the words to express their suffering or not, to not be forgotten, to not fall into oblivion. Finally, an optimistic outlook from the author is the documentation, by the reader, of any personal experiences of bodily pain for the creation of a collective social memory.
