The present research work deals with the study and documentation of the territory of Thermi as a continuously changing urban area in eastern Thessaloniki. The intense and radical interventions in its land, driven by the massive and increasing demand for housing since the late 20th century, have turned it into a constantly changing blend of rural, urban, and industrial elements. Through the historical record of the area’s most significant events, from antiquity to the contemporary era, the residential landscape of the territory and the morphology of the new settlement are described as they have been shaped and continue to evolve. The research aims to determine which social and historical factors contributed to these developments, how the established dualities interact, and to what extent the rural aspects of the past manage to survive amidst the violent and continuous changes in the environmental space. Ultimately, is it possible to establish a relationship between rural, urban, and industrial elements on cooperative terms?
