How are the environmental conditions experienced by the biosphere of our planet?
Anthropogenic activities have radically changed the carbon cycle and the flow of biodiversity, bringing new challenges and demands in every aspect of our lives.
The construction industry changed direction abruptly from the 20th century onwards, participating openly in both the increase of anthropogenic mass, carbon dioxide emissions and pollution of ecosystems. Using building materials to meet the construction needs of 8 billion people, we are called upon to renegotiate the use of cement and reinforced concrete in which we grew up. Considering the whole life cycle of the materials and the embedded carbon they carry, we need to turn our attention to domicological materials that interact positively with the industry and the builder, at each stage of their processing.
In Greece of lignite and non-recycling, for at least a decade now, discussions about Natural and Earth Building techniques have been increased significantly, drawing inspiration from both the past and the challenges of the future. The remarkable efforts that are happening, have created the foundations for a united network of architects, engineers and citizens, which, however, are not enough to reverse the building footprint.
The whole industry of professionals related to the construction industry, must be informed on time, about the new building methods that we are called to remember and invent, in order to educate the users, and to remind them that the processes of building are directly related to the quality of life and with what I call Color of the Earth.
