In recent decades, the countryside has undergone and continues to this day to undergo constant changes and transformations in its environment. The continuous development of new practices (tourism, industry, agriculture, etc.) in the countryside alter its identity and landscape, leading to its urbanization. Tourism plays a very important role in this new reality for the countryside it being a main reason people move and operate in different areas of the countryside having a sizeable influence on it. Thus, the countryside becomes an in-between space, constantly moving, where all the elements interact with each other and are affected, giving this space new properties and characteristics.
In Greece, the countryside is of historical importance for the country due to the events that takeplace there. The country's tourism landscapes, especially rural landscapes, are its trademark: archeological sites, beaches, mountainous regions, etc. The increase in tourism in recent years in the Greek islands and throughout the country threatens the environment and its authentic nature. Due to the growing trend for the construction of accommodation and facilities that, in combination with the industrial and agricultural facilities that already exist in the countryside, the natural environment of the countryside is burdened and at the same its culture is threatened.
Kriaritsi is an authentic Greek countryside-tourism landscape, therefore an in-between landscape: ephemeral and permanent; constructions of seasonal accommodation, water sports, nudism, herds of animals, livestock activities, settlement construction sites, archeological sites. As a landscape of tourism and therefore, a landscape of an in-between space, it follows the theory of evolution as an organism, with all its elements constituting the identification of the area and its characteristic identity which depends on them. Tourists in Kriaritsi leave their own "imprint" on the place while at the same time gaining new experiences and images for their vacation from their stay in it.
