The industrial buildings are places of memory and civilization, they also provide a series of changes, facts and strong contradictions. Because of their identification to the human labour, they concentrate memories, at the same time, they act as landmarks inside the urban fabric and they signal the human activity of a whole period. The reason why we chosen to focus on the wine making sector is because of the relation of the wine as to our civilization as to everyday life. Thus, the present research project, refers to matters relevant to the Greek industrial heritage at the wine making sector in order to underlined the importance of the industrial buildings. This research project is structured by five parts. More specifically, the first chapter is an introduction to the senses of industrial heritage and its value, while the relevant international institutional protection framework is presented.Subsequently, the historical evolution of the first efforts to preserve the industrial heritage is analyzed as well as some examples of these efforts taken place in the European area are presented. Thethird chapter presents the same analytical approach taken place in the Greek area.In the forth chapter of this research abrief historical referenceis made to viticulture in Greece from ancient times until today. And finally, in the fifth chapter, several significant industrial buildings-wineries of Greece are presented and analyzed and also an effort is made to find a correlation between Greek and European examples. In its entirety, this research constitutes an area of concern and conclusions on the matters of industrial heritage preservation, which are mainly examined through bibliographical references.
