The study of the historical and cultural life of people can help someone to understand them. By studying the beliefs and values of our ancestors, and examining their history, it prevents us to make the same mistakes that they made. Therefore, we can hope for a better future.
In order to examine in depth the formation of landscape in ancient Greece, books, legends and anything connected to structured or non - structured landscape needs to be examined. People are responsible for the changes made in a place, they are the creators of everything that is constructed. Every city that was ever built is the creation of humans beings, an intervention to the natural landscape, consisting of their ideologies. The city becomes people's social and cultural centre. Religion and people's perceptions about the world were responsible for creating cities.
The beauty of Greece and its diversity, makes us wonder about the perceptions that ancient Greeks had about the Greek landscape and the way their perception affected their interventions to it. Ancient writers didn't use to describe places. However, we can take information about nature and landscape through their work (tragedies, ect.). Nature was an important part of people's daily life.
The purpose of this study is to find out the ancient Greeks' perceptions about landscape, their interventions to it and the way they formed it. Information will be taken from ancient Greeks' texts and from their mythology.
