This research topic is focused on the study of industrial activity facilities, which their operation and their transformation has stopped - after detailed recording, study and evaluation of their special characteristics - in housing estates and student accommodation.

Then, the term “Industrial Heritage” is analyzed and it is emphasized the importance for sustainable development through implementation studies, reuse of industrial facilities and their conversion to other uses, providing buildings with a durability and keeping the main, structural, building and architectural characteristics.

For the purposes of the operation of Lofts residential and student accommodation industrial buildings it is appropriate to analyze the structural characteristics of industrial establishments in order to investigate their suitability for reuse.

Finally, examples of conversion of former industrial buildings into residences and student residences are listed, with emphasis on the need to rescue the industrial monuments and the necessity and possibility of their development through new uses with a view to functionality, economic autonomy, and respect to the history of the building and its equipment.
