This thesis will research and categorize the species of the architectural profession and the ways that architecture is practiced through its professionals. Inspired by the directness and proximity of the medical profession with its public, there will be an analysis on how the structure of the profession interacts and affects the wellbeing, or not, of the individuals of each generation.
The species that were analyzed were chosen based on some common connective characteristics, for example the idea of collectivity and communal living. In this ways some principles arise that did not change through time, and social and cultural fluctuations. Through these principles, of discovery and disappearance, one may speculate on new “species” that may come to be in the future.
In a time period when the image of the profession is been reefed with criticism and opinion both from the inside and the public, this paper will try to become a preliminary guide/manual of the architectural species/specialties/characters used for their respective exploration, by the social groups, the organizations and the individuals that could be benefited from their discovery.
