By the end of the Greek-Turkish war in 1922, 1.5 million refugees from Asia Minor and the interior of Turkey seeking refuge in Greece. The entrance of refugees is of such magnitude that negate any population balance in the country.
The need for housing and settlement of refugees leads to the creation of numerous refugee settlements in cities and regions. Despite poverty and poor living conditions this population manages to survive and develop playing important role in political, social and cultural developments in the country.
The investigation focuses on the village of Nea Ionia Magnesia. Alongside the development of space and housing, and examined the social and cultural elements which influenced the course of the settlement today.
