This project started with an observation on the way of living and evolving of the limestone quarry in the Municipality of Karla. This observation reveals a perspective of a landscape in the procedure of shaping which is formed through the canons and the interactive relationships of the spatial elements it consists of.
I begin my walk in the quarry from the active steps and specifically from the upper to the lower one. This procedure is divided into movement sections of 100 steps each. Using the human scale as a measure i attempt a biomatic measurement of the site’s dimensions.
During my walk the observation of the optical distortions every 100 steps has led me to the creation of a language in order to describe hem and clarify the analysis of the spatial elements and the relations between them.
Continuing comes an analysis on the evolution of the quarry through time during its life - according to the official exploitation study. In this analysis the factor of the human scale is used to interpret time.
Finally a critique is made on the presentation of the substance and the image of the quarry’s landscape based on two different systems of measurement.(traditional measures, modern measures). Furthermore we examine the relationship between the period of exploitation of the quarry and the period following it, as well as the amount that this relationship affects the methods of landscape restoration after the quarry’s exhaustion .
