In the riverbed of Mornos 7 kilometres west of Lidoriki in the Prefecture of Fokida the waterbank of Mornos was created with the manufacture of a soilmade Dam.The work began in May 1969 and was completed in 1979,its operation began in 1981 though..The Dam is one of the biggest in Europe and reinforces the water supply of Athens through the aqueduct of Mornos, the second biggest aqueduct in Europe. The aqueduct of Mornos communicates with the one of Ylikis with uniting aqueducts and then the unprocessed water is transported in the four Units of Treatment of Water (M.E.N.) the Galatsi, the Polydendri, the Aharnon and the Mandras. Finally the water is channelled from these M.E.N. into the water reservoirs of the city of Athens through an extensive piping network.
In Mornos’ Dam there are three research locations: The Control Bank, the Access Tunnel and the File Deposit of the Dam. The Bank handles the two other locations and through them checks the behavior of the Dam. The research begins in these three locations. The researcher is influenced by the territorial significances and details of each location. Thus the Dam is transformed into a staged coupling of spaces round the already existing three locations. The Control Bank handles the whole data. The Access Tunnel of the Dam is connected to the Cemetery of Trains in Thessalonike and to a mine in Amfissa. The File Deposit of the Dam is grouped with the Tannery in Volos and with a Drugstore in Soufli Evros.
Each one of the locations is studied and imprinted by the researcher. A total of activities are responsible for the deduction of data from various sources, the definition, the adjustment and their introduction into a Deposit of Data.
