Cinema is a historic and technical phenomenon, which can be transformed from entertainment to a politico-ideological appliance, to an economical investment of industrial level.
Which is the language of communication in the movies? An example of communication could be the allowance of information the movie provides to the audience (ex. info about ancient civilizations, the world wars etc).
The medium that indicates cinema as a form of art and it is used as a type of canvas is the pure cinematographic film itself. On this canvas the creators of the movie (director, screenplay-writer etc) deposit personal experiences and viewpoints.
In west civilization (USA and Europe) and specifically in American movies, profit is a major aspect. This aspect defines the type of the movie and also the screenplay (in an attempt to achieve a blockbuster).
The understanding of the cinematographic vocabulary from the audience is necessary. Cinema like any form of art is complicated and was influenced through history by the different types of conjectural movements. As a piece of art, each movie cannot be apprehended by the majority of the audience. The movie addresses to an audience consisting of people of different age, educational level and nationality thus it cannot affect in the same way everyone.
Through these five cinematographic examples we attempt to analyse the mediums of symbolism in cinema.
