The aim of this project is the comparative study of underground human and animal (insect) settlements. Fields of reference are the underground ant nests, which are constructions that follow biologically predetermined rules. Moreover, the existence of human underground habitation, over the centuries, as for example found in Cappadocia, stimulates architectural interest for further investigation. The aim is to find out common or non-common points of reference between these two structures (human and animal). The research focuses on the mapping of the network and the links among the underground chambers, but also on the typologies used in order to resolve architectural issues, such as the importance of concealing entrances and the use of ventilation and thermoregulation systems.
