Our diploma thesis is a research and design approach to the redesign of a single area of 250 hectares in Faliro Bay, the "spatial gap" between the Kifisos and Ilisos rivers and the coast turning it into a vital, productive, residential, recreational, and educational link between the city and its waterfront. A model of symbiotic living, where social welfare, technological innovation and a strong hybrid urban landscape are linked to the ideal of urban life in self-sufficiency.
The general environmental and political configuration is organized into three distinct zones of activity:
Housing & Work: where social housing units, office, service and shop spaces are developed, connected and powered by an electric vehicle drive network, verifying sustainable mobility proposals.
Productivity & Environment: where industrial units of vertical and open crops and zones of mass participatory action-work are introduced, so that the inhabitants can rise from consumers to producers and protectors of their food.
Culture & Recreation: where the point of contact with the sea, nuclei of "water culture" and gentle education, sports and enjoyment of life in the countryside and on the coast are created along the extensive networks of green walking routes, meetings and celebrations.
