The paper named "Observing the lives of the elderly at Thessaloniki" summarizes the research carried out within the framework of the course "Research Topic" of the 9th semester. It is a paper mainly aiming to present the habits and needs of people over 65 years of age in Thessaloniki and in Greece in general. Initially, it investigates the practice of care and the need for communication, two practices that are intertwined with the everyday life and good mental state of older people. Then, it briefly analyzes statistical data of the elderly population in Europe and in Greece. Later, there is the section that concerns the everyday life of the elderly in Greece in terms of their needs and the technologies that are now offered for their dignified living. Moreover, a personal example of a couple after their retirement is presented and analyzed in four successive phases of their lives depending on their level of health and activities. Based on the observations of all the above, there are proposed five examples of spaces that combine the kitchen, the dining room and the living 10 room (significant areas of movement among the elderly within the home) and the primary research conducted to confirm the theoretical approaches regarding the daily life of people over 65 years of age is presented. Finally, the work concludes with the presentation of the action of an online group that activates and motivates third-party individuals to create friendly bonds and mobilize them on issues concerning their needs and the city in which they reside.
