The present research paper attempts to shed light on two emblematic buildings of workers' housing in a neglected neighborhood of Thessaloniki, which were created by the Workers' Housing Organization. After a historical analysis of the housing issue, in order to understand the context in which they were constructed, it proceeds to the study of Xirokrini and the Pyli Axios settlement, where they are part of. The paper presents the historical and social evolution of the area, the quality of life of the residents, as well as the challenges they face. It emphasizes the degradation of the urban environment, the crime, and the threats of short-term renting of real estate to the community. The twelve-story buildings on Lagada Street are a central focus of the research and serve as an example of fragmented housing policies and the need for meaningful interventions in the area.Â
