It is undeniable that open green spaces are of the utmost importance, as they promote a more quality and sustainable daily life for the residents of modern urban centers. Although they are an important part of the urban fabric and contribute essentially to their functional and aesthetic upgrading, it is a common phenomenon in Greek cities that these spaces do not receive the attention that they deserve or do not even exist. Therefore, in an effort to raise awareness and reconnect humans with the natural environment , urban agriculture practice are coming back to the spotlight. Efforts are often found in private spaces (balconies, courtyards, roofs), but examples of urban cultivation in public spaces (parks, squares, schoolyards, community and municipal plot) are few and far between. However, schoolyards are the ideals fields for the application of cultivation activities as they meet the necessary conditions and encourage environmenta education. The present research focuses on the city of Xanthi and more specifically on the example of the school garden of the 3rd kindergarten of Xanthi. In particular, the entire effort to create and maintain a school garden in the context of a modern provincial town is recorded. At the same time, the influence and the response that the program had from the students and the teachers, the strong points, but also the difficulties of the project and the conditions that should prevail in order to achieve and adopt the school gardens, with the aim of the school courtyards to join the green network of each city.
