In this research work, a study is made on the topic of "pocket parks" or "vest-pocket parks" or "miniparks" with the main field of research being the pocket parks of Athens.
Pocket parks appeared after World War II in Europe, then were adopted by America and now appear globally. They are small green spaces that can be placed in any public part of the urban fabric. Their design depends largely on their location, as different neighborhoods have different needs. These parks show advantages similar to larger parks and affect society both ecologically and socially and individually. Nevertheless, there are various difficulties that can appear either in the acquisition of vacant plots, or more importantly in the integration of these parks into the lives of the residents. There are many examples of pocket park devices two of which are Paley Park in New York and Esta es una plaza in Madrid. These are two very different examples that, in their own way, have managed to become an integral part of local societies.
In Athens, in recent years, efforts have been made to make the city more sustainable, and one part of them is the creation of pocket parks. Through visits to thirty pocket parks in Athens, they present some observations both in comparison with parks abroad, and about their place in people's lives. The main conclusion of this research is that pocket parks, at least as they exist now, cannot be integrated into the mentality of the residents of Athens.
