The research work entitled "Architecture and Pandemic - the Example of COVID-19" by Vissarakos Aristotelis and Papakonstantinou Lydia and supervising professor Lykourioti Iris focuses on architecture, i.e. the science that studies and creates every building in which people work, have fun, dream , get frustrated, live. It hides, in an essential way, a continuous study of factors which at first reading are not so distinct. Over the centuries and as humanity evolves, architecture listens both to new developments and to the new needs of people. But the story did not always unfold smoothly - and the same has been the case in recent years. Within literally one day the entire planet was faced with a pandemic, as a result of which everyone's life was significantly affected. The same thing happened from people's new requirements for buildings. The residences were transformed "overnight", for many, beyond a place of residence and a place of work at the same time. This has led to the remodeling of many workplaces to achieve the greatest possible isolation for the workers who continue to be there. In addition, the markets and catering areas were deemed completely inadequate to coordinate with the new reality, while at the same time the public - unused parks were suddenly transformed into places for walking, sports, meeting people, due to their attempt to escape for a while from the confinement of their familiar .
This research aims to study to what extent and in what way a pandemic has affected architecture in the past and currently affects it as well as what new paths architecture is called upon to follow in order to keep up with the new reality.
