This research paper concerns the study and analysis of the work, The Museum of Innocence by the author Orhan Pamuk. It is a multidimensional project consisting of two books, a building and a documentary. It’s composed by the book and building, The Museum of Innocence, the book The Innocence of Objects, and the documentary Innocence of Memories. During the analysis of this overall project, a presentation of the breadth of the concept of the museum is successively presented, also an approach to what the collections and objects mean and what role they play in people’s lives, and the attempt to understand the psyche of the collectors too. Afterwards I refer to the building of the Museum of Innocence in Istanbul and carry out an extensive analysis of the museum space, the objects and their display within it. Later I refer to two examples of peculiar museums that I found to have similarities with the Museum of Innocence I am examining. These are the Old Grocery Store in Ano Gatzea in Pelion and the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia, which hide deep material and semantic connections between them and the museum I am studying. Finally, I present the most recent part of Pamuk’s work, the documentary Innocence of Memories, where some questions will be asked and we will reflect on the development of the novel, acquiring a new look at history now placed in the modern city. The purpose of the research is to question and reflect on the past, present and future of museums, objects, collections, memory, history, people and our culture.
