Many buildings that for various reasons cease to meet their very first use, end up being claimed by different groups of people, aiming to exploit them for alternative purposes that sometimes degrade and other times upgrade their original use. The purpose of this research is to examine the conditions under which a building loses its original role, to investigate the presence of occupied buildings and in particular the political squats and roof squats as places with heterotopic features. Furthermore, through a brief historical background, the main characteristics of some representative examples of squatting will be identified. Finally, the limit of the possibilities that arise for these buildings and how the social environment is affected by their existence will be studied.
