The purpose of this research is to examine modern approaches and ways of reusing ruins. From the examination of the theoretical background and a number of international examples it emerged that the most common approach is to sensitively mix the older architectural style of the ruin with modern architectural elements and materials, while cultural reuse emerged as the most typical mode of reuse. However, regardless of the degree of intervention or the mode of reuse, the examples showed that imagination, ingenuity, the evolution of architecture, materials and technology can restore ruins from unused spaces to functional ones, from forgotten to spaces with new life and future.
