This research thesis aims to observe and analyze the kitchen space, mostly while it is being used. The research begins from the prehistoric years, before the kitchen was even discovered as a concept, following the steps that led to its contemporary form. We take a closer look into the transformation of the kitchen’s image regarding the design, the evolution of its use, as well as the events that contributed to these changes. Next, we examine other more contemporary situations that have an impact on the kitchen space and possible future proposals that deal with its evolution on a spatial and ideological level. Finally, based on personal research, using interviews and photographs of real life kitchens and their users, we studied the relationship between each person and their space with everything that it contains. How does one choose to inhabit their kitchen and what kind of changes can that bring to its space. What is the place of the kitchen inside the dwelling and how does that affect the coexistence and connection with the other parts of the house. All this different elements that are being discussed in this thesis help us compose a more complete picture of the importance of the kitchen space for the modern society and its people.
