The special research topic titled “Reinventing retirement housing” by Athanasios Tsiotas and supervising Professor Theoklis Kanarelis, focuses on the problems of incorporation of the elderly people in the modern society. The research is based on the expansion of the phenomenon which occurs in the United Kingdom and examines thoroughly the modern housing of the people of Third Age, giving them the opportunity to “grow vividly”, that means to live in security, to enjoy health benefits and to continue being “active members” of the society. Public and private sectors cooperate in order to create suitable environment which is sustainable by local and special characteristics of every place along with every need of its habitants. Beyond housing which the foundation for the people to live better and longer life, also important is a broader environment like family, neighborhood, and place of living in general. That proves that love, companionship and helping those in need is a solution for a lot problems in the modern society. It is necessary for the elderly needs to be widely known and to be acknowledge that they are marginalized for the longest time. That is how a desire arises to create new neighborhoods which rejects any prejudice against the elderly and redefines their thoughts, giving us the conclusion that housing is a small part of the change but very important. Therefore, it is now being acceptable that improper housing is part of the problem, so giving them new houses is part of the solution. However, as the projects are in progress, ideas keep on changing which results to the connection between housing, health and social care being in a constant change.
