In this light, the issue of laundry is also treated as a social phenomenon. Commercial laundry rooms and rooftops offer a safe space for people to move, talk, interact and dream. The laundry changes scenario as soon as it crosses the boundaries of the “private”, the actions take other shapes, with the person being isolated on the edge of the balcony. The relationship of man with space and speech becomes apparent through architectural elements, as well as examples.
The social impact of washing clothes appears between the two sexes, redefining them. The innocent “sign” of laundry changes with the racial segregation that governs it. The woman assumes social and responsible roles that are evident to this day. Determining her intelligence, emotionally, logically and socially depends solely on her abilities and the washing machines she uses.
The concept of laundry does not cease to occupy even art. This relatively ordinary and indifferent housework has a special dynamic and charm that is reflected in the visual arts and even in cinematic works.
