Through the analysis and the understanding of disability, public space and accessibility, we try to study the interaction of people with disabilities with the public urban space and to identify the construction and social problems they encounter. The problems of their integration into public social life are due to their dysfunctional daily life caused by lack of infrastructure and the social discrimination. The result is their exclusion from public space and all the activities that take place in it.
The research on this topic is based on the existence of relevant legislation which requires the removal of any social barrier and technical obstacle in public urban space, and whether it is actually applied. The state must respect the rights of people with disabilities and eliminate any kind of discrimination.
In order to eliminate the above discriminations, the public space must be redesigned and redefined to include all the citizens, creating social interactions between them and the urban public space. The creation of infrastructure projects and the awareness of civil society are an indication of a politically active society with a high standard of living and culture.
Inclusive architecture have to ensure accessibility of public spaces and services for all citizens, through design. It is important to remember that the concept of accessibility is not just about people with disabilities. Most citizens have been disabled, at some point, in part of their lives and face technical failures of the public space. Accessibility focuses on citizens, their rights and needs.
