The object of this paper is to explore the city of the future through 21st century cinema perspective. Particularly in 21st century science-fiction films, one can easily identify the common theme of the destruction of Earth's environment, either due to climate change or wars, as well as the need to preserve life inside new structures. To this end, the city is transported to a closed system, either on earth or in space, for the sole purpose of survival. The sci-fi genre was selected because it depicts the city of the future and reflects the phobias and hopes of society in each era, creating different representations over time. The purpose of this research project is to assess the impact of spatial transformations in relation to social ones which are caused by the transfer of known social structures to a confined space.
